The Oxford Canal is unlike modern canal systems in the way that it follows the contours around the hills as opposed to having cuttings or embankments. This is perhaps one of the reasons for its popularity – twisting through quiet countryside and tiny villages – it is arguably one of the most picturesque cruising canals in Britain.
