Cotswold Canals Trust has made a marvellous video featuring one of its better known members, author and historian Professor Mark Horton, to back its £15-million funding bid to connect the Stroudwater Navigation to the network
The proposal to restore the four-mile stretch of the Cotswold Canals between Saul Junction and The Ocean at Stonehouse was submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund in November 2015 and a decision is expected this April.
Some six miles have already been restored and if the funding application is successful, the aspiration for ‘The Stroudwater Navigation — Complete and Connected’ can become a reality. In five years the canal would once again be joined to the network, with boats being able to travel from the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal at Saul into the heart of Stroud.
