31 cyclists are seen arriving at Anderton Lift at the end of the Canal & River Trust’s Great British Bike Off, a 300 mile sponsored ride to raise funds for the waterways.
The tough four-day pedal began at London’s Olympic Park and took in canalside roads and cycleways following the Grand Union, Trent & Mersey, Macclesfield and Standedge Tunnel, and the riders included CRT staff and supporters. CRT heaqd of fundraising Ruth Ruderham said the Trust was “delighted to have had such great support” for a ride that “that took in some of our most-loved waterway locations”. Altogether they raised almost £40,000 for heritage, maintenance and nature projects on the canals and rivers.
