A zero percent UK inflation rate is good news for canal boaters – as it means that Canal & River Trust boat licence fees won’t be going up at all next year.
Under a three-year pledge made by CRT in 2013 annual licence fee increases, both for private leisure craft and business boats, have been tied to the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index the previous summer. As the Index for August 2015 was zero, there will therefore not be a fee rise on the usual date of 1 April 2016.
Announcing the news, the Trust’s Head of Boating Mike Grimes said “We are committed to offering fair prices to boaters who choose to cruise on our waterways.” He added that CRT hoped it would help “those who explore our canals and rivers as well as those who live and work afloat”.
