The Bona Lighthouse was built to shine its light out along Loch Ness and guide boats from the Loch into the section of the Caledonian Canal leading from there to Inverness. Built around 1815, it’s said to have been the smallest manned lighthouse in Britain. It’s been out of use for many years and was falling into disrepair, but now the unique historic building with its octagonal tower is now to be turned into six-bedroom holiday accommodation, thanks to grants from Scottish Canals and the Vivat Trust for restoring historic buildings.
