Heroes, explorers and young volunteers are the three categories of waterway volunteers that the Canal & River Trust is looking for as it seeks nominations for three new annual volunteering awards.
Supported by the Marsh Christian Trust, an environmental, social and heritage support charity which has put up the £500 cash prizes, the three awards are aimed at three types of volunteers on CRT’s canals:
The Heroes of the Waterway award goes to those who have given long service to CRT’s (and its predecessor BW’s) waterways; the Explorers Education Volunteer Award is aimed at volunteers educating children and young people; and the Young Volunteere recognises the contribution by those aged 13 to 25.
The awards are open both to individuals and to groups. The deadline for nominations is 15 January: see canalrivertrust.org.uk.
