More canal boats on TV this week with the building of the Wessex Rose and her launch and arrival on the Kennet & Avon featuring on George Clark’s Amazing Spaces.
The timing of the programme (Thursday 7 November at 8pm, Channel 4) is excellent, because the boat has just achieved a five-star rating from Visit England.
Designed, built and fitted out as a top-end hotel boat by bespoke builders Milburn boats on a Tyler Wilson hull, Wessex Rose was launched in May. Its styling is very much ‘boutique hotel’ with three luxury en-suite double guest cabins, underfloor heating, TV & DVD in each room, a large comfortable saloon with a motorised tilt-and-slide sunroof, and a ‘rooftop’ sun/starlight deck.
The 69ft x 12.5ft boat was based on a Humber Keel Hull design and constructed specifically around the sizes of locks and bridges on the canal. For more, go to Wessex Rose’s website.
