The Grand Opening Weekend of Mercia Marina’s new £1.7m Boardwalk development attracted thousands of visitors over 11 to 12 October.
During the sunny weekend, visitors were treated to live music, boat trips, street performers and fireworks. With the backdrop of a glorious sunset, South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler cut the ribbon assisted by one of the owners, John Thornton. She said: “When we saw the plans for this marina several years ago, we knew it would become the jewel in the crown for South Derbyshire. And we were dead right.”
Robert Neff, general manager of Mercia Marina, said: “We were utterly delighted to see so many people turn up to this special event. It was even better than we ever envisaged.
“Many visitors hadn’t been to the marina before and everyone had extremely positive comments. We were delighted that Heather Wheeler was able to give up her time to help us mark this extremely important chapter in the growth of Mercia Marina as a visitor destination.”
