Regent’s Canal has turned green after hot weather causes duck weed to grow at an alarming rate.
Rising temperatures over this last week have caused an “explosion” of floating duck weed to break out across London’s canals according to volunteers at the
Normally, individual pieces of the weed are the size of a ladybird but they rapidly multiply in the heat which has the potential to very problematic for the boats on the water.
So far more than 70 tonnes has been collected this week.
Although there is no danger for people, experts warned that dogs and other animals have tumbled into the water after mistaking it for grass.
