Now in its third year, the free festival returns to the Grand Union Canal for a fun-filled family day both on and off the water
It’s not too late to make weekend plans – Hayes Canal Festival is this Sunday 25 September at Highpoint Village, in Hayes town centre.
On the water
The festival aims to encourage people to use and look after the Grand Union Canal, so what better way than to get on to the water?
Canoes and stand-up paddleboards are on offer for the more energetic to explore the waterway, while those looking for a relaxing cruise can take a free boat trip.
The festival is also celebrating National Fishing Month with free fishing taster sessions. Under the instruction of a licensed coach, anyone – young or old – can get a peek at what lies beneath the surface of the canal. Just make sure you register in advance for your kit here.
Dry land
Food and drink, craft stalls and a host of activities – including canal-side walks, balloon modelling, circus skills, face painting – all await on the shore.
There will also be music at the newly opened Village Café, as well as the chance to try Indian dancing and Dhol drumming.
Hayes Canal Festival starts at 11am on Sunday 25 September, and runs until 4pm. More information can be found on the Canal & River Trust website.
