Get ready for Birmingham Canal Festival on 16th and 17th September. A festival is coming to Birmingham’s canals that will feature fishing, a floating market, film screenings and much more

The idea of the new festival is to celebrate the history and heritage surrounding the waterways in Birmingham.

From angling in the canals and discovering historic boats to browsing a floating market packed with local food and craft stalls, the waterways will be busy with locals and visitors.

There will be a pop up outdoor cinema from the Flatpack Film Festival with more screenings taking place at Gas Street Basin on a narrowboat! The films will have a canal theme including the 1973 film Take Me High starring Cliff Richard whose character moves to Birmingham and lives on a narrowboat.

Peter Mathews CMG, chair of the Canal & River Trust’s West Midlands Waterway Partnership said “Birmingham’s canalside is full of life with so much going on … and this festival will be a great way to rediscover what’s on your doorstep. Whether you’d like to get out on the water, try some fishing or just enjoy a leisurely drink and something to eat it’s definitely worth a visit.”
