Come along to the National Waterways Museum’s free open weekend to discover the history of Ellesmere Port.
Guides will take visitors on tours explaining the port from the arrival of the canal in 1795 to the development of the various buildings in the 1800s.
In addition, all the usual facilities within the museum will be open for everyone to enjoy including ghost tours and free boat trips on a first-come, first-served basis.

And, if you’re in the area, there’s also the chance to see inside Beeston Iron Lock on the Shropshire Union Canal on Sunday 17 November from 10.30am to 3pm. The rare iron lock, built in the 1770s, has been drained ready for repairs so visitors will be able to descend into the lock chamber and talk to Canal & River Trust craftsmen…
