The flight on the North Oxford Canal looks set to notch up yet another year as CRT’s busiest
Leading Canal & River Trust volunteer lock keeper Taryn is seen presenting a certificate to boaters Helen and David from Yorkshire to commemorate their boat North Star being the 9,000th this year to pass through Hillmorton Locks, as the flight on the North Oxford Canal looks set to notch up yet another year as CRT’s busiest.
Although the busiest individual locks on the network are the two single locks at New Marton on the Llangollen Canal, when the figures for the left and right chambers of the duplicated locks at Hillmorton are added up they have easily come top in the Trust’s annual lockage report. And it looks like they will retain their position when the figures for 2019 are announced in the New Year. Despite being one of the busiest volunteer keepers, Taryn said she loved the work, as “everyday is different and it’s lovely to help people on their way, providing information such as where the nearest place is to grab a drink in a pub or a pint of milk from the shop”.
