– Luskentyre II / 2000, 70ft (£67,000)

This four-berth 70ft trad is based on a Colecraft shell with a fit-out by Barry Hawkins and is driven by a Gardner 3LW diesel.

On entering the boat from the fore end, the combined saloon and galley stretch for over 25ft, allowing room for a comfortable settee, separate freestanding gateleg table and chairs, along with copious amount of storage and worktop in the galley. Depending on your taste, the only item that you may feel is missing from this area, is the traditional boaters favourite, a solid fuel (or diesel) stove, but with this much space installation should not prove too much of a problem. Taking the best features but not wanting to be a slave to tradition, Luskentyre II has a gleaming, slow running but powerful three-cylinder Gardner engine in its own dedicated room, which gives a mellow, pleasing exhaust note, but never sounds over stressed. The same can be said of the aft cabin which takes all of the best ideas from a fully tradition Boatman’s cabin, such as all of the storage and a bed box, which instantly transforms into a second double bed. The well deck with its glazed cratch board and well fitting removable cover provides seating in all weathers.
