Vince Moran, the man in charge of running and maintaining the waterways for the Canal & River Trust, has announced that he is to retire early next year after 18 years with CRT and its predecessor British Waterways.

In his role as Operations & Asset Management Director, Mr Moran’s responsibilities put him in charge of the regional waterway units responsible for maintaining the canals and river navigations, as well as having responsibility for the Trust’s workshops and central engineering functions, plus safety, water supplies, heritage and the environment.

Richard Parry, CRT Chief Executive, credited him with being “the driver of the significant improvements we have made in safety, asset management and condition, and day-to-day operations introducing numerous improvements to our ways of working”.

Mr Moran said he had “loved my time on the waterways”, where he had “met and worked with many fantastic people”, but that he had always intended to retire at 60 and “with that milestone coming up early next year, it’s time for me to move on.”
